Wisdom from Daymond John

leadership, relationships, business

I recently listened to an interview on Lewis Howe’s School of Greatness with Shark Tank legend Daymond John. Here are a few highlights:

After recently battling cancer, Daymond has a new appreciation and focus on his health. He now says that anyone who wants to be successful long-term has to take care of and prioritize their health.

He is most proud of being able to escape the goals and expectations that society made for him. Growing up in a rough neighborhood he was expected to wind up in jail or worse.

Most entrepreneurs don’t talk about it, but your business will suffer if you let your health or your family life suffer. The worst years of FUBU occurred while his family life was struggling. If you want your business to run optimally, make sure the rest of your life is healthy and balanced.

The wave of the future is going to be in delivering things directly to the customer. Technology is eliminating the middleman. You better rise and grind now because the barriers to entry are low so you better get going.

Three things that he believes to be true are: 1) be in and live in the moment 2) love as much as you can and 3) have faith in God.

His definition of greatness: being able to sleep at night and be satisfied with yourself and your journey.

My main takeaway from Daymond is that success and health must go hand in hand. Your health goes beyond just physical health to include your work, relationships, mental and spiritual health. I challenge you to think about what areas of your health can be improved in order to create more balance and sustained success.
