Fish Climbing Trees

leadership

The best leaders know how to create a game plan based on the unique strengths of their individual players.  As an example, a great football coach doesn’t run the same offense every year, they custom make the right offense based on the strengths of their players that year.

In his famous book “Good to Great”, Jim Collins points out that a great leader puts their best people on the biggest opportunities rather than their biggest problems. To take that one step further, a great leader needs to ensure that they match the opportunity with the unique strength of the individual.

Albert Einstein said, “Everybody is a genius.  But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”

I challenge you to think about the unique strengths of each individual within your leadership sphere of influence.  Acknowledge that it is the leaders responsibility to recognize the strengths of each individual, put them in a position to succeed and empower them with the support necessary to become the best version of themselves.
